Sound Realtek High Definition [HD] Audio Problem | Windows XP, 7 Vista

No sound from Speakers? Problem with Realtek High Definition Audio driver?

Problem: You don't have any sound coming out of your speakers or headphones? Think you might have a problem with your Realtek HD audio driver?

Are you getting an error message that says: Realtek High Definition Audio driver is corrupt or missing:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"Realtek High Definition Audio Driver

No Sound from Headphones: Realtek HD audio drivers

Got no sound coming from the headphones? Sometimes uninstalling then re-installing the driver will help.

Try this:

Go to Add/Remove Programs and look for the "RealTek HD Audio driver". If it's listed, uninstall it and restart the PC. Then update your Realtek drivers - download and install the driver updater; restart the PC when finished. It will automatically update all out-of date or corrupt drivers to the latest version.

You might have tried to uninstall the driver and you got this message: "Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the computer."

Still No Sound?


  • Have you tried uninstalling, reinstalling, roll backing your Realtek high definition drivers?

  • Have you tried automatically updating your drivers?

  • Perhaps you are getting no sound after installing Realtek High Definition Audio Driver Update?

  • Have you tried updating drivers, bios have onboard sound card enabled?

  • Maybe you have a problem with Realtek AC97 driver - no device?
